Hey everyone, my name is Anthony and welcome back to the countdown.
Last time, I covered two parts of the best and the worst moments in F1 2023, though despite I got one fave, I unfortunately got a lackluster reception because my lack of fans or even DA algorithm, so at the end, I decided that this will be the last time im doing a countdown moments in F1 for good. But what about the movies of this year, you asked?
Well, it was a tumultuous year with some promising movies, but then there’s also movies with buttload of flop after flop with many reasons, especially one of the reason is a cinematic superheroes fatigue that many people (myself included) are started to losing our touch and moving on. And lets not forget the unionization against the major studios for solidarity against the use of AI content for replacement, which it hurts both careers of writers and actors, but also the films lack of promotion or premier and the delays of upcoming projects, but as we all know the union strike was eventually reconciled.
When it comes to movies, it was an interesting year that some are fairly descent movies and even some are the biggest movie of the year, but some are a wasted opportunity or even no reason to be made for lackluster marketing after the trailer or announcement.
So for this countdown, as always, I made two parts, the good movies and the bad movies, but as always, I stick to the latter as you already know. Sure there are some moment in my countdown development has a last minute change or inclusion before posting on both DeviantArt and Blogger for which movies that I forgot before moving on to 2024.
So now we got that out of the way, this is The Top 5 Worst movies of 2023.
But, before we get started, I wanna start off with a single Dishonorable Mention with…
Ferrari
This movie may not be the worst movie ever, but its more like a boring kind of disappointment. While it has a potential to explaining about the struggle of Ferrari brand and even reality hit hard for Ferrari family, along with some racing, but it feels more about the crisis and than the racing that I was hoped for, along with some actors trying to do an Italian accent, im not trying to offend them, but I’ve seen Italian actors do better than our cheap Italian accent, along with questionable casting choice in my opinion. I know some people may liked it, but for me, it belongs to my personal disappointment that I had to put it in my DM.
Now that we got that out of the way, so lets get started, shall we?
Number 5: Cocaine Bear
Yeah, I know some people love this movie that even though it maybe a dumb idea, but it has some respectful fans of this movie, that it was actually based on a weird tale of a bear consuming a bags of nose-candies from a former policeman with drug trafficking on a plane, but even if this movie is just plain… Weird.
For starter, the movie’s presentation is fairly good to look at that we like to going on a wild for camping, the actors are good too that il give an appreciation or a pass, especially for Ray Liotta for his good performance before his death in 2022. Even the kills are pretty good, but yet brutal and gory, some has a good kills, but some are disappointed unseen, though they have some humor gave me a chuckle. Even the bear appearance is ok with bare stunt performer or cheaply done with CG.
But the reason why its on lower list, its because despite some people liked it, but im not a fan of it, I find this movie to be weird, but not in a good kind of weird concept to make a good movie, the writing is average with cliché plot of people vs nature, the plot got multiple separation that makes it lost on its track and confusing what are we focusing on, like which one is focusing on, the drug members trying to collecting bag of drugs, a group who’s trying to survive or whatever? Not to mention, aside of some that I chuckled, but most of the jokes are pretty low that I barely laugh.
You people may love this movie in a weird way, but I wasn’t so satisfied what Elizabeth Banks gave us, hence why I put this on Number 5 spot.
Number 4: Five Nights at Freddy’s
*crowd of FNAF fans booing out loud, calling for canceling Blackevil915*
Ok ok ok, before you’re sending me a hateful comments on me for not liking FNAF movie, but… Hear me out, please?
Don’t get me wrong, FNAF movie had a big promise when it was announced before the release in October, since nearly 10 years ago, Five Nights at Freddy’s was such a big deal for the idea of surviving ourselves from possessed animatronics trying to kill you with a dark history behind the animatronics and pizzeria. Which with the success of FNAF1, it became a franchise faster like Foxy’s dashing for jumpscare, with sequels, novels, merchandise, spinoffs, as well as fanmade games to replicating from FNAF games.
With a success of the franchise, Scott Cawthon, the creator of FNAF, wanted to have a movie based on his work, it was announced back in middle of 2010s that many fans are waiting for, but after almost a decade of “won’t they won’t they” from turnaround to changing distribution from Warner Bros to Universal with Blumhouse Entertainment, you think this long waited project is a worth of waiting we have? The answer… Its mixed. Though I know some fans may like this movie, but for me, sadly, its sadly a disappointed result.
While il give an appreciation to follow the game, Mike was hired as security guard and surviving himself from animatronics and learning a dark history behind the pizzeria, even I also give a credit with some Easter Eggs that I can easily pointed as a former fan of FNAF. Though its also nice to see the kills by the animatronics.
But everything else of the movie felt flat pretty badly with average plot with subplot that really ruin the story, the writing is weak, the kills, while brutal, but unseen for purpose for being a PG-13 movie, cheap jumpsacres and the characters are both forgettable like Mike being a loser and some others are a waste of space to be killed.
Again, I know lot of people may love this movie, but of course, some like me, find it to be a complete disappointment film for being both overhyped and long time wasted that it wasn’t worth of waiting after almost a decade, this is easily for me, the most disappointing anticipated movie ever came out when the creator FNAF wanted to be involved from his vision.
Number 3: Blue Beetle
Yeah, this is the one that I personally regret my decision, not because im disappointed on this movie, but its also one of those film that flopped in a reason why cinematic superhero movies are starting to get tired very quickly, but Blue Beetle just came out in a wrong time.
For starter, il give an appreciation for the look, the actions, the designs and the attempt of Blue Beetle, not just for my morbid curiosity why some people like to talking about him, but also for the Latin-American community. Even the acting are descent at best that il give a credit.
But unfortunately, this movie fell flat pretty quickly that the story and the characters are downright either average or forgettable based on a poor writing and the obvious cliché, I wanted to liking this movie for a high-hope, but the hope is pretty much crash and born that the main protagonist and his parents are annoyingly exaggerating that when will they ever shut up, listen carefully and follow the damn mission, but again, it won’t work because the execution just won’t work, and not to mention that we have another high hope of the villains, but didn’t turned with an average development and again, a cliché villain role of getting artifact like Egyptian scarab that turning into Blue Beetle for the sake of taking over the world.
In the end, while I know some people may like this movie, but this one jusr… Pretty much ruining the potential that I was anticipated for, its just like one of those overhyped film but felt flat pretty quickly, as well as bad timing when we’re so tired of cinematic superhero movies that between this, the sequel Shazaam, The Flash or the recent sequel of Aquaman, they’re all got flopped pretty quickly we’re pretty much out of touch of them, I guess its not hard to see why we stick to superhero shows that got better like The Boy’s Gen V, the second season of The Invincible, the 4th season of Harley Quinn and even my new favorite, My Adventures with Superman. But the cinematic superhero movies, are unfortunately going down as one of those franchise fatigues and causing to losing a lot of money (same could be said with Disney’s MCU, but different story).
Number 2: Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken
This one really hurts at Dreamworks…
After releasing two successful animated movies from last year that I was happy for their comeback, you think that Dreamworks will able to coming back for a new success to knocking Disney down from its glory days, right? But alas, its only 2022, and Ruby Gillman is unfortunately made the studio going backward.
First up, il give an appreciation for the idea of girl of a sea creature family wants to get along with human life, but of course, everything crash and burn to find out she has unusual effect that she transforms into Kraken form, it has a nice actions, the animation looks ok at best and the voice acting are good.
But alas, not even the good stuff pretty much going down with the writing is bare-boned and unoriginal that the story feels like they borrowed the plot from Pixar’s Turning Red, like there’s no way you can avoid if you stole it without trying to make something new. Well, ok it does have a plot development involving kind vs kind like Kraken vs Mer-people, but the problem is that they mainly focuses on Ruby Gillman’s like until we get the third act with a climatic battle, it would’ve been descent, if the writing could’ve been better without the wonky pacing and the jokes are barely a jokes to make us laugh, if feels like its not even trying to give more than a single chuckle, while some characters are ok, but some are either unfunny or even being stupid.
However, when I was looking back at this movie, I have my personal reason why its on Number 2, its gotta be the animation. But look, the animation are not bad, but it begs my question, what happened? Did they went backward after their impressive animation style with The Bad Guys and even Puss in Boots: The Last Wish? I mean, I thought that this will be a Dreamworks comeback for their new animation style for taking inspiration from Sony’s Spider-Verse, but instead, they decided to going back to the normal CG animation, even though it may looking good, but sometimes some of the character designs don’t look right.
And not to mention, not even Universal and Dreamworks couldn’t save it because even though when it was first shown a trailer, it didn’t go that well. But once the movie came out, this movie is pretty much a wasted opportunity that it got flopped pretty badly with earning $46.2M compare to the budget of $70M. This movie bombed so badly, they pretty much decided to release the film digitally in 18 days after it came out on theater. And to add more salts to the opened wound, it cause not just losing$80M at Universal, but also dumping out a couple of employees and they’ll probably becoming a small group to co-operating with other studios, including Sony’s Imageworks with three projects
In other words, this movie is so bad, it made Dreamworks was going down spiral that not only they’re lost their money, but also work as a co-operating group with various major groups. It could’ve get worse that we might as well using hashtag “RIPDreamworks” if this studio is about to die…
But, its not even on Number 1, yes, Ruby Gillman does have some good things and does has a respectful cult following fans out there, but its not as extremely bad once we reach at the top. Well, you’ll see who’s on top.
And now, the Number 1 worst movie of the year goes to…
Number 1: 80 for Brady
Where… Do I… Begin…?!
First of all, we have Tom Brady, one of the most divided NFL player of all time that some New England Patriots or Tampa Bay Buccaneers for helping them to win SuperBowl, including more than ten times when he was Patriots, and some who love to hating him for either being overpower as a quarter backer or when he had a soft punishment in a Deflategate scandal, in fact, during the time when he was on Patriot, I was one of them that I love to hating Patriots to see other teams trying to take them, some failed annoyingly bad, but some like Philadelphia Eagle.
But all the sudden, he took a first retirement after been into Patriots and wanted to be involved in this movie as a producer, along with bringing with familiar casts like Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and even Sally Field, you would think that this may sounds like dumb but curiously interested to see this movie for a worth of time, right?
NO!!!
Instead, what we have in this movie, is a complete mess in one of the most boring and unfunny movie I’ve ever watched!
The story feels like they borrowed the similar plot from National Lampoon’s Vacation, which I loved this movie, but what in a world is the excuse when the story is just unoriginal, but the same could be said for the writing, the writing in this movie is not only poor, but also flat out stupid for all the lack of logic and wrong reason, especially when they trying so, freakin’ hard to make it “FUNNY”, but no, I barely have any, single chuckle when they’re “trying”, mainly because, again, the writing is boring and stupid from beginning to end, especially when this film is “Based on true story”, which I understand what they wanted, but this movie forgot to realizing its not as fun nor even trying as say “Nacho Libre”, which at least Nacho is actually funny that I watched before (gross-out gag aside).
But look, I can respect the filming presentation looks nice and il give a respect to the casts they’re doing the best job, but again, its the writing that its a major problem, in order to make the characters being boringly generic.
Not to mention, since this all about a trip to Superbowl, it wasn’t even feel like a movie that im watching, it feels like more an hour-long advertisement of NFL brand to merchandising for both Patriots fans and Superbowl fans, but sure, im pretty sure some NFL fans may like, but there’s no way that people with better IQ could stay from it without making us look like idiots while we’re watching!
This movie is so bad that its unfunny, its so bad that it wasted the casts and a celeb cameos, its so bad that it forces you to buy the NFL products as a cheaply bad ad movie, its so bad that this could be Brady’s second worst thing he’s ever done since Deflategate, and its so bad that I had to threw the movie out of my collection! Im not kidding for the latter, after a couple of days after seeing this P.O.S., I had to get rid of this movie from my collection by donated it to the thrift store to pretending this movie doesn’t exist on my collection, but who’s fault to buying the DVD? It was me for the whole time, im one of those idiots who bought it in curiosity, but I ended up wasting my time and money and Im so regret for my responsibility from this dumpster.
And its not hard to see why nobody ever talking about it to this day, and that’s why I considered 80 for Brady as my Number 1, worst movie of the year 2023.
So this ends of this countdown, but tune it next time, we’re going to looking back with some good and maybe some guilty pleasure movies in a best movie list to cap off my list of 2023.
But of course, got any other worst movies that I didn’t missed? Im sure some of you make an easy guess, let me know at the comment bellow.
Thanks for reading, and im Anthony, signing out.
