Hey everyone, my name is Anthony and welcome back to the countdown.
2018 is kinda divided for the movies, they're a few great films that it deserves to be rewatch, but others are so bad that we don't wanna see them ever again.
In my previous years, i only made my top list of best films, but in this year, i watched more than five films in disappointed to traumatizing for wasting my time and money. So, this is the first time im doing my two parts of countdown of movies in 2018. So, il start with the negative one that i like to get off my chest to looking back a bit. Case in points, eight worst films of 2018.
Just to heads up, this list are the films that i watched from disappointment to the worst. So some bad films like "Hotel Transylvania 3" or "Sherlock Gnome" won't be on the list that im glad i never watch them
So, lets get started the list with the films that i wish i never watch them for the first time.
Number 8: The Happytime Murders
Lets start with the one that kinda like, but tried so hard for weird reasons.
For the story, it feels like a typical murdering case of the fictional puppet show with our main private investigator name Phil Philips with his unlikely partner name Connie Edwards from the police department. And... Thats pretty much else to say about the story, its pretty much a generic murder case story, but with puppets.
But i have to admit, the puppet designs are rather not bad looking, they're basically like a parody design based on either" Sesame Street" or "The Muppet Show", Speaking of Sesame Street even though they had a lawsuit from the Sesame Workshop for ripping off the tagline, but the case was dismissed by the judge, because they already changed the tagline during the ads, but poke fun about the lawsuit.
The characters are rather ok for the performance, but they have a generic development that Phil is more like an anti-hero from the past and Connie is a broken down officer from the past. But i think i know this movie is a common flaw that Melissa McCarthy appears in bad comedy films, but i guess i could say this film is kinda better than GhostBusters 2016?
With the puppets is not bad, but its the story that is rather boring, pretty bellow average characters and some jokes are... not as funny what they tried. It feels like they trying to be like a puppets version of "The Sausage Party", but the different is that "The Sausage Party" done better, despite the backstage politics at some employees. Aw well...
Number 7: Death Wish 2018
Making a remake films is rather a bad idea in order to appeal for modern viewers instead of some viewers are familiar with original ones.
But with Death Wish 2018, its not the worst remake ever, but again, i had seen worse. This remake of 1974 with a same name stars Bruce Willis as surgeon named Paul Kersey, who seeks revenge over his dead daughter from the gang or murders, as he decides to hide himself with a hood and his gun to kill them as a vigilant hero.
Though the presentation is average and the action scenes are not bad cause i like gun shooting in various films, but its just the it doesn't have anything new about this remake, its just a vigilante seeks revenge over his daughter from the murderers. It feels like a cash in remake without anything new.
Even though i kinda like it, but didn't work as a remake, like it would've been ok for a different title than slapping the name after 1974 film starred Charles Bronson. But i've nothing against Bruce Willis, he's still a great actor, even though that he deserves better than being in remake.
Number 6: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Jurassic Park is the most ground breaking film about the breaking of dinosaurs in animal park in the fictional island. It became a big deal from the success by our favorite director Steven Spielberg.
With he success, there's gotta be a sequel, because box office. The sequels went average to utterly bad like Jurassic Park 3. When Jurassic World came out to bring back the old franchise, its a welcome return, but not as perfect that i can say, but once again, with box office success, they' made another one, but boy it showed.
With "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom", this is easily the biggest disappointment. I mean it had a great start where the dinosaurs are picking up to get away from Isla Nublar's destruction from volcano, including saving the last raptor name Blue. With the dinosaurs are saved, you expected to to hear or see something new for tell us about the dinosaurs or maybe add anything new?
Nope, despite it has something new, but it ended into a boring film with a same plot element about a hybrid dinosaur for replacing Velociraptor to Indoraptor and even some pointless clone element.
Though its nice to see some of our favorite characters like Chris Pratt's Owen Grady, but the biggest slap in the face is they brought back Jeff Goldblum's character Ian Malcolm, which i expected he'll show up for helping our main heroes up, but no, he's just appeared in cameo, talk a waste of potential since Blade Runner 2049.
With some good acting, unique effects, a good first act, but its the story feels like it was tripped by a shoe laces, some forgettable characters and poor plot elements that its been done before. Sadly, with box office succeed, they're gonna make another one in 2021. Oooy...!
Number 5: Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween
It is no secret for Goosebumps, its one of the most kids horror story by R.L. Stine back in the 90's. As time goes, the series still going for the focus of spin offs, which it wasn't lived up from the 90's.
As years passed, we wanted to see a movie based on the books, with the first movie in 2015, it is pretty good one that instead of adapting from one book, its basically a story where the books come to life and causing chaos, its rather original what they did.
Then three years later, they made a sequel in October with Halloween elements, right? But guess what? Its the same story from before, but with Halloween theme, its almost like it was written by a writer who doesn't know how make something new, just borrow the same story from before and bring back Slappy the dummy back as the main villain again. But to be fair, i like Slappy in the movie, but didn't live up he's not voiced by Jack Black. Speaking of Jack Black, he did return as fictional R.L. Stine, but like Ian Malcolm, his appearance is pretty small that he didn't helping out our main heroes.
Though the new characters are mixed, with the main boys like Sonny and Sam are rather not bad, but Sarah is a generic "don't give a crap" sister of the family. But some are likable that i want to see more like Mr. Chu.
This is the movie that its a lot more disappointed with recycled story, some average effects (because some times the quality feels video game-ish) and the characters are bellow average. Which i wasn't sure if they're gonna make another one.
Number 4: Rampage
Lets face it, making movies based on video games is a salt on open wound to video gamers that its easily predictable they're gonna be very bad. Well, except for Wreck-It Ralph, its a good one for originality.
I mean, i always keeping myself away to never watching a movie based on video game, which we are easily believe its gonna be bad. But i break my own rule to watching Rampage, because when it showed the trailer, it looks like it might be promising, but it was a lie.
But in fairness, it has some good things like giant monsters, some good effects and nice role with The Rock. But unfortunately, it ended quickly that this movie hasn't anything to do with the video game with the same name, the plot is generic and everything about it is pretty much boring.
Instead of three people being mutated into giant monsters, instead it the animals was mutated into giant size to causing rampage, sounds good in theory, but the problem is the identity for having an adaptation of a 1986 arcade game by Midway, but failed miserably.
I know i learned the lesson, but my damage of breaking my rule was already done that il be regretted. The presentation is ok, the story feels empty and the characters are easily under-developed. Except for The Rock, he has a good performance. But at least he's not as cartooney than Hulk Hogan.
Number 3: Slender Man
In the world of horror films in nowadays, i feel that many people tried really hrd making something scary, but ended up to boring or stupid. But "Slender Man" is the biggest boring horror film to adapting from the urban legend of the internet.
Slender Man is the most notable mysterious figure from post in the internet, a tall, faceless entity wearing a suit, stretching his arms and summons tentacles for kidnapping innocent kids got a lot of attention in the internet, resulting plenty of adaptions with short movies and even video games.
As time went, Hollywood though it will be a good idea to adapting a movie based on the internet urban legend, which i have to admit, i was anticipating that maybe it will be a big deal, but no.
This movie tried so hard to give a truth about Slender Man, but failed for a poor truth, the characters are the most cliche as we've seen in various horror films, which they don't have a smart decision, which they ended up either disappeared or even causing panic attack.
This is the horror that its a complete waste of time with effortless writing, lame characters and the production is so bellow average. Just stick to the indie game of Slender Man or maybe other horro films that they're good like Halloween.
Number 2: Pacific Rim: Uprising
The first Pacific Rim might be a good film in 2013, despite the under performed box office, it was considered an homage of Japanese cultures with giant robots and Kaijus, which its no wonder why it had a cult following after five years.
And then, they made a sequel with some new casts, including John Boyega for not only acting, but also work as a producer for the first time in his career. Which you'll think that they improve the story, the characters and cool actions, right?
Sadly no, it was easily the worst sequel i've ever seen, the story is the same thing as before, but with a different plot element where our heroes noticed an evil version of Jaeger named "Obsidian Fury", which turned out to be the machine has Kaiju's brain, which we though thats over, but no, i just carrying on for more focus of actions, rather like to know about the characters or anything in the movie.
Speaking of characters, they're all forgettable (aside from John Boyega's role), they didn't have anything new or even more development for what they are, and some previous characters are killed off like Mako, which she was supposed to have a reunion to the main hero Raleigh.
Not to mention, they even attempt to have some jokes, but the jokes are given from the dialogues, but good lord, they're terrible for their desperation. Like they tried so hard to do some funny lines like Marvel Cinematic Universe, but awful. Its almost like it was written by a kid who tries so hard to have fun, but ended up into confusion for the meaning.
Though the action scenes with Jaegers and Kaijus are fun, but i can't get enough with lame story, horrible jokes and more under-developed characters. But i hope the series will be better on Netflix next year as an anime show.
And now, the number 1 worst movie of 2018 goes to...
Number 1: Teen Titans Go! To the movie!
Oh my goodness sake...! Where do i begin?
First of all, Cartoon Network made "Teen Titans Go!", which we can all agree that its one of the worst remake ever, which they though its likely gear towards kids for chaotic comedy like "Hotel Transylvania 3". And finally, they made a movie based on the show which it had a lotta dislikes on Youtube and im obviously believe il never watching it.
But then out of nowhere when i came out, it had a positive review that i was pretty skeptical that il watching to find out how it was good, right? But no, i feel like i was completely wrong...!
This is hands down, the most frustrating experience i've ever been for watching this movie, like this movie is horrible that it has no reason to be a "good idea" to be in the big screen. If Steven Universe was announced to have a movie only on TV, but why they think that its ok to put it on the big screen?!
For starter, the animation is alright, i know its a typical cartooney design, which this is based on the show, but including a lot of DC superheroes in the background for their cameos. The animation is the only positive part of this movie.
But the positive came to an end that everything about this movie is god awful and disgraceful to watch. Like the story feels like its non-exist, mainly because they focused way to much of stupid jokes, and the jkes are too childish and immature, its as they have no idea how make a good story, just put random stupid jokes in order to laugh that i am barely laugh!! not to mention having story about "Be yourself" or "be a true superhero" are poorly written that they ended up meaningless for more focus bad comedy much like Happy Madison films
The characters doesn't feel like characters, the heroes Teen Titans have to the stereotypical personalities they tried so hard to be likable or even rooting for, but they ended up play obnoxious and annoying like Jake and Logan Pauls! They wanted to rooting for Robin in order that he's gonna be the next hero after Batman, but plain stupid for his selfish way!
God-F***ing-Dammit! Its "The Emoji Movie" all over again, but with superheroes by Cartoon Network. Its horrible, disgusting and an absolute disgraceful idea by one of the biggest animated show company of all time. This will make a good reason why i considered it as the number one worst movie ever made in 2018!
I mean, this is the film that it was not by the company or even Corporate Driver, No! This is the idea by the Devil itself!!!
*rumbles*
Anthony (me): Uh oh... i... I think i crossed the line...!
???: Did someone say about it...?!
Anthony: This... This getting worse what i expected..!!
*the floor explodes to revealing a demonic version of Anthony named "Anthonoh"
Anthonoh: *crackles* Thats right, Canadian boy, it was me, all along...!
Corporate Driver: *walks in* Ok seriously?! You clearly disturbing my business for--
Anthonoh: Shaddap you!
Corporate Driver: *groans*
Anthony: Anthonoh...! you're must be involve from this abomination!
Anthonoh: Well of course i do, i've came up the idea to CN for ruining the nostalgia for all the wrong reasons.
Anthony: But why? Why would you want to take control at CN for doing a remake?
Anthonoh: Thats because ever since the early show was so popular, they went to cashing in for a modern childish design of animation in order to have negative reaction from audiences from the internet or even the critics, which it always makes me hungry to eating their souls of IQ from their traumatize, anger and countless questions, they'll give up that they'll ended up into depression that i always like to eating their IQ~... *slurps*
Anthony: Oh... I guess it kinda make sense for creating something that no human being will ever do.
Anthonoh: And so, the projects of 2018 is coming to en end, i can't to hear something awesome at 2019 that i like to eating more souls of IQ and il become much bigger than anyone can! *burst of evil laugh and explodes himself to going back in hell*
Corporate Driver: ... So...?
Anthony: Welp, i accidentally unleashed the devil version of me...
Corporate Driver: Do you have anything else to me?
Anthony: Nah, just go back to your thing.
Corporate Driver: Right.... *walks away*
